Top 3 for 2010

To contiune our review of the year, THE DM GROUP have chosen the top 3 tv commercials for 2010. There was laughter, some even made us cry.  And the other, well the other one was just too good. Here they are.

Ah Barbara, you make us want to switch to ANZ.

Not only is this next commercial great, but the idea behind the campaign is even better. The VB commercial from their ‘get real’ campaign is a call out to all men to take an honest look at themselves in this superficial world.

What more is there to say about the next pick besides, ‘I’m on a horse’. The Old Spice guy was one to remember for THE DM GROUP (and those who received our Christmas card) in 2010.

Looking back at 2010

As the year draws to a close, we take this opportunity to reflect on the top 10 greatest moments at THE DM GROUP for 2010.

  • Can anyone forget the epic ping pong smack down between good and handsome? Andy Harrison may of had the looks but Dave had the moves, winning 15 to 0.
  • Excellence in Communication…Super Innovator of the Year…That’s right, we’re talking about the two awards HOSTPLUS captured this year at the AFSA awards for their Pledge Campaign.
  • Bringing a new twist to Mo’vember this year was Ian Ross with his pledge to abstain from any inappropriate jokes for a whole week, bringing in over $400 in donations.
  • Who can forget David Findlay’s farewell party. I guess we should blame ourselves for giving him a present we knew he’d try on.
  • YMCA got everyone off the couch and into the gym with their Fight The Couch campaign. People were karate kicking and ninja chopping their way into a local YMCA Centre.
  • 2010 also experienced the worlds longest birth.
  • We should say 2010 was a quality year with the launch of HOSTPLUS’Choose Quality campaign. The TVC’s ask our audience to reflect on ‘What is quality?’ with the conclusion that ‘Real quality is hard to define but we all know what it is’. It’s the reason people choose HOSTPLUS.
  • 10 years later Andy ‘Johnny Depp’ Harrison is still the most handsome man at THE DM GROUP, after starting here in 2000.
  • The agency had a blast at the 2010 ADMA awards with Melbourne Citymission, who brought home a bronze in the Effectiveness Not-for-profit category with Jack’s Story.
  • And what began in a caravan 20 years ago is today THE DM GROUP. The greatest moment of 2010, by far, is the agencies 20th anniversary.

Look forward to what 2011 has in store for THE DM GROUP.

Baby Hockley

After the longest birth in history (it took 19 years according to Craig Hockley), at 10PM Monday night baby Hugh James Hockley came into this world.

Like all clickDM babies, little Hugh was given his first bath, an iPad and a facebook page.

On behalf of THE DM GROUP, congratulations to Craig and his wife Susanne.

We look forward to seeing the future of digital marketing.

Brain drain

Have you ever been compared to a lab rat?

Checking Twitter or Facebook for updates every few minutes may be turning you into one.

So says Nicholas Carr, the former executive editor of the Harvard Business Review, who believes that information overload is stopping people from concentrating on everyday tasks. Even stating that our gadgets have turned us into hi-tech lab rats, mindlessly pressing levers in the hope of receiving a pellet of social or intellectual nourishment.

Well Mr. Carr, could this just be the natural evolution of humans into a digital age? Where our desire for knowledge and the ability to connect to other social and media networks can be obtained with the click of a mouse (sorry, just had to say that).

With so much attention and study drawn to social media, it just proves how important it is to be involved.

Much like evolution, if you don’t change the way your mind works, you’ll be left behind.
