Jack’s Story

The 2010 ADMA awards have picked their finalists this year as the event returns to Melbourne for awards night on November 26.
So who’s Jack?
And what does this have to do about a story?
Well, one of those finalists in the Effectiveness Not-for-profit category is Melbourne Citymission’s winter tax appeal…
or Jack’s Story.
A highly effective direct mail campaign which aimed to encourage Melburnians to help change the lives of real Melburnians in need.
And with such great response, we can look forward to something…

Food for thought

Agency friend and founder of Action Words, Frank Chamberlin, is a part time lecturer in the Masters Program at Monash University.
So, when he asked THE DM GROUP creative director, Stephen Flewell-Smith to help him out with one of his classes, Stephen was more than happy to lend a hand.
Full of wisdom, he presented to Master of Marketing students and explained how it really works in an Advertising Agency.
And how does it work?
Imagine, Jamie Oliver’s restaurant Fifteen. From the moment you enter it is about great service and great food.
The front of house manager represents the agency’s head of client services. It’s his job to consult, suggest and make you feel welcome. Once you’ve chosen your meal, the waiter (account service) takes your order and tells the kitchen (creative services) what to cook. The kitchen is overlooked by the head chef or in the agency world by the creative director to ensure your meal meets the restaurant standards. Your meal then gets served by the waiter and they make sure you don’t leave until you are satisfied.
It just shows that working in advertising is not a one-man show and a great team working together can achieve great food… or in our case, great advertising.
We hope the students left the class hungry for more food… err knowledge.

Hand up for the Homeless
We’ve been working hand in hand with Melbourne City Mission on their Hand up for the Homeless campaign.
The campaign aims to raise funds for – and awareness of – Melbourne City Mission’s youth programs by asking Melbournians to put their hand up and make a difference.
Hand up for the Homeless kicked off over the weekend with the first ad in Good Weekend. More ads will be in Sunday Life, The Age and train stations, so look out for them.
More importantly, click here to put your hand up for over 6,400 Melbourne children who don’t have anywhere to call home.

Welcome to Melbourne, Wayne

Our valued client HOSTPLUS has recently beefed up its marketing team with an import from sunny Queensland.
Meet Wayne Sullivan – national marketing programs manager.
Apart from boardies and flip-flops, Wayne’s packed 25 years of marketing experience in financial services in his suitcase, so we’re very excited.
So Wayne, welcome to the team. We’re looking forward to doing some great work with you.

We don’t expect to win but…
Yesterday we watched Melbourne Storm, well, storm home with the title of 2009 NRL champions.
It’s the fourth consecutive year the Storm has reached the final and the second time they’ve converted their efforts into the NRL trophey.
You might have seen our latest HOSTPLUS television commercial.
It marks the third consecutive year our client – and Storm sponsor – has won both SuperRatings’ and Money‘s best super fund awards.
And it celebrates an attitude both HOSTPLUS and the Storm share.
They don’t expect to win.
But they do.
